History
Tau Phi Sigma was founded on November 11, 1992. On this day, thirteen students gathered for the first time with the intention of establishing a new fraternity at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. These men were looking for an organization that would fulfill their interest in promoting higher education, serving the community, promoting social activities, and establishing a true brotherhood with each other. With these common ideas as a foundation, they began to establish a new fraternity. Eventually, a constitution was written, and eighteen young leaders became the Founding Fathers of Sigma Tau Phi. The Found Fathers, in order to prove themselves worthy, went through their own twelve week pledging process. These twelve weeks of education and discipline ended on May 1, 1993 and created a brotherhood made up of the first seventeen members of Sigma Tau Phi and was named the Genesis line. As the first line, Genesis went through a lot of hard work and faced many obstacles. And because of problems with the IFC, Sigma Tau Phi became Tau Phi Sigma.

Tau Phi Sigma crossed over their second pledge line Mercury on the day of their One Year Anniversary, November 11, 1993. Mercury made up of two members, crossed over in six weeks, and helped prove that Tau Phi Sigma was real, growing, and strong.
Vision
The objective of this Fraternity shall be: To stimulate the ambition of its members; To prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the causes of humanity, freedom, and dignity of the individual; To encourage the highest and noblest form of manhood; and To aid humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic and intellectual statues.
Brotherhood
Tau Phi Sigma recognizes the importance of focusing the strength of many on a common purpose. As a result, the Brotherhood emphasizes community involvement, with an eye towards leading by example. By organizing and encouraging participation in volunteer efforts, the Brotherhood increases the effectiveness of its ability to provide services to those most in need. As it forges a new and difficult path, Tau Phi Sigma welcomes the participation of everyone with a legitimate desire to help the community.
In the cultural arena, every chapter of Tau Phi Sigma dedicates itself to exploring and propagating the vast richness of everyone's heritage. By sharing our history and culture with each other and those in the more general community, the Brotherhood gains a much better understanding of itself, while at the same time, raising public consciousness. In addition, Tau Phi Sigma ensures that as the organization advances and grows it does not forget the roots from which it came.
Finally, Tau Phi Sigma functions socially in a unique and positive manner and providing an atmosphere in which each Brother can be himself and relate to others who share similar backgrounds and experiences. Most importantly, in creating a feeling of family, every Brother has a place which he can truly call home, a place where he will be respected and supported. In doing so, Tau Phi Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated redefines the concept of Brotherhood.
